As President Trump implements a plan he said will crack down on a crime emergency in D.C., some city leaders have pointed to falling crime numbers, which they say show the situation is not an emergency. However, many residents tell 7News that whatever the numbers say, the city doesn’t feel safe to them.

7News went to the area in and around Hechinger Mall in Northeast DC to talk with residents and business owners. Although opinions differed on Trump’s plan, there was wide agreement the city still has a major crime problem.
